Severe delays hit the Manchester Metrolink network on Monday afternoon after a tram defect caused significant hold-ups in the city centre. The fault occurred at Deansgate-Castlefield, leading to major disruptions across several lines.
Passengers Left Waiting for Nearly an Hour
Commuters reported waiting at tram stops for almost an hour after a tram was suddenly taken out of service. Large crowds gathered at stations as services were disrupted. One passenger told the M.E.N. they had been waiting since around 3:40 PM, with trams resuming movement at approximately 4:30 PM.
Bee Network Statement
A statement from the Bee Network said: "Due to a tram fault at Deansgate-Castlefield, city centre services are experiencing severe delays." Ticket acceptance was put in place on the Altrincham, Airport, Eccles, East Didsbury, and Trafford Centre lines.
A post on X by the Bee Network added: "We're currently experiencing delays in the city centre, due to a tram fault at Deansgate. Very sorry for your wait this afternoon." Bee Network has been approached for further comment.
