Richard Gadd's new BBC drama Half Man has been described as an 'explosion of violence', exploring the 30-year relationship between two men, Ruben and Niall. The series, which premieres on Tuesday, April 28 at 10.40pm on BBC One, was predominantly shot in Glasgow, with additional filming in Gibshill, Greenock.
The drama stars Richard Gadd as Ruben and Jamie Bell as Niall, with Stuart Campbell and Mitchell Robertson portraying their younger selves. The story begins in the 1980s when the two teenagers are thrown together by fate, becoming inseparable, but decades later Ruben makes an unexpected appearance at Niall's wedding.
During a Q&A, Gadd explained the choice of Glasgow as a setting: 'I know Scotland really well, I've lived in Glasgow for four years... I love Glasgow as a city, it's got such a strong identity.' He noted that the city's evolution mirrors Niall's personal struggle, as Glasgow has transformed from a 'scary place' to 'one of the gay capitals of the world'.
Jamie Bell, best known for his role in Billy Elliot, will also appear in the upcoming Peaky Blinders sequel as Duke. Half Man airs on BBC One at 10.40pm on April 28.
