Residents have been evacuated from their homes following a gas leak in London's West End, with road closures expected to remain in place into the morning.
Evacuations and Cordon
A rest centre has been set up after 40 residents were forced to leave their homes due to a ruptured gas main. A 50-metre cordon is in place on Stacey Street near Shaftesbury Avenue.
Fire Brigade Response
London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews are on scene, with three fire engines and two command units from Soho, Euston, Bethnal Green, and Dowgate fire stations. Station Commander Daniel Perrett stated: "Crews are working with partners to isolate the ruptured gas main and make the scene safe. The incident is expected to be protracted and continue into the morning. Road closures are causing disruption, and we encourage people to avoid the area."
LFB was first called at 1:31 PM on Sunday, June 14. A rest centre has been established to support affected residents.
