A Royal Caribbean cruise holiday took a tragic turn when a passenger jumped to their death from the ship's infinity pool, leaving fellow travellers and crew members in shock.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying moment the individual plunged from the pool area, which overlooks the ocean. The incident occurred aboard the Infinity, one of Royal Caribbean's luxury vessels.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, but despite rapid response efforts, the passenger could not be saved. The ship's crew implemented emergency protocols while other guests were ushered away from the scene.
"It was absolutely devastating to witness," one passenger told reporters. "One minute people were enjoying the pool, and the next there was chaos and screaming."
Royal Caribbean has confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing deep sorrow and offering support to those affected. "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time," a spokesperson said.
The company has not released details about the passenger's identity or possible motives, citing respect for the family's privacy. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Mental health experts have emphasised the importance of support services on cruise ships, where passengers may feel isolated despite being surrounded by people. "This is a heartbreaking reminder of the need for accessible mental health resources, even in leisure environments," said one psychologist.
The Infinity has since continued its scheduled itinerary, with counselling services made available to passengers and crew members.
