Theme park giant Six Flags announced it will close six "underperforming" locations in 2026 after posting a loss of over $1.2 billion at the end of 2025. Several other parks are also shutting down, including a beloved UK park.
Brean Theme Park and Glenwood Caverns
In Somerset, Brean Theme Park was assigned to liquidators at the start of 2026. Glenwood Caverns in Colorado, USA, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February amid financial and reputational problems.
Wild Waves Final Season
Wild Waves Theme and Water Park in Washington State opened for its final season on May 23, 2026, after nearly 50 years in business. Owner Premier Parks cited rising operational costs since reopening after the COVID shutdown, which generated millions in losses.
"We are thankful for our guests, team members, and the community of Federal Way for supporting Wild Waves," said Premier Parks owner Kieran Burke. "Unfortunately, the rising cost of ongoing operations forces us to discontinue operations at the end of our 2026 season."
The park will operate all 30 rides and water slides until November 1, honoring season passes and packages purchased before the announcement. "In its final year, the park will celebrate memories, nostalgia, and family fun with themed events and special promotions," Burke added.
Future Development
The amusement park will be replaced by a one-million-square-foot warehouse, according to media reports. The proposal has proven unpopular among local residents who cherish memories of the park. Co-owner Jeff Stock said in December 2025: "We recognize the deep history and emotional connection many residents have with the park. Plans are in preliminary stages, with goals beneficial to the city and surrounding areas."
