Concerns about President Donald Trump's health have intensified after he consulted a record 22 specialists during his latest medical examination. The figure, disclosed in a memo from his physician, has sparked widespread speculation about the state of his well-being.
Record Number of Specialists
Trump visited the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for the check-up, where his personal doctor, Navy Captain Sean Barbarella, noted the number in a memo dated 29 May. This is the highest number of specialists a US president has seen during a physical, according to historical records. During Trump's previous check-up in April 2025, he consulted 14 doctors.
For comparison, the Washington Post reported in 1989 that then-President George H.W. Bush saw five specialists, while his son George W. Bush consulted 12 in 2001. In 2024, it was revealed that Joe Biden's medical exam involved a team of 20 doctors, though press secretary Jean-Pierre did not specify how many were specialists.
Recent Visits to Walter Reed
Over the past 14 months, Trump has made three publicized visits to Walter Reed. These include his physical in April 2025, another check-up involving a CT scan in October, and the most recent examination at the end of last month. Following the latest exam, doctors concluded that he "remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function."
The President was measured at 75 inches and 238 pounds—14 pounds heavier than last year—but with a healthy resting heart rate and normal blood pressure. The report states that he takes two cholesterol medications and aspirin for his heart.
Ongoing Health Worries
Despite these findings, multiple concerns about Trump's health have emerged during his second term. He has consistently rejected claims of physical or mental decline, insisting he is in "perfect health" despite visible bruising, swelling, and apparent memory lapses. Posting on Truth Social after the appointment, Trump maintained he remained in "perfect" health, writing: "Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Centre. Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House."
Trump, who turns 80 on Sunday, is the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, beating his predecessor Joe Biden by about five months.
White House Response
A White House spokesperson said: "The involvement of multiple specialists reflects a comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluation consistent with best practices for executive-level medical care."
