Mum of Two Finds Family Car That Solved All Her Luggage Problems

When you’re a parent, you have one big problem: stuff. Children come with an enormous amount of paraphernalia, from prams to white noise machines, nappies to travel potties. More equipment is needed for a day trip than was sent into orbit for NASA’s Artemis II mission. So when I’m testing a family car, space is my top priority. And when I say the boot on the Škoda Superb Estate Sportline 2.0 is so large that I couldn’t fill it, that is no exaggeration.

Even en route to a weekend away with two enormous suitcases, a travel pram, four coats, four pairs of wellies, and a baby carrier, there was room to spare. It also meant I could pack quickly and haphazardly without having to play luggage Tetris. That’s a huge win for any parent.

Interior Space and Comfort

The interior is equally generous, with plenty of room for duvets, toys, and snacks. And that’s just for the adults. When it comes to space, the Škoda truly lives up to its name—Superb. The legroom is something Ryanair could only dream of. Even in the back, a tall adult can stretch out comfortably.

However, with space comes bulk, and the car is admittedly quite long. Forget squeezing into a small space on the village roadside—the Superb is long and strong, measuring 4.86 metres from nose to tail. Even when parked in a bay, the nose sticks out noticeably.

The car is also quite low to the ground, which may not be to everyone’s taste. My partner John, used to driving a tank-like vehicle, wasn’t keen. But I loved it. It creates a cocoon-like feel when seated, incredibly comfortable for long journeys. The ergonomically designed seats hug your back like a moving desk chair, holding your spine carefully in place.

Technology and Safety Features

When it comes to tech, the Superb has everything you need to stay entertained and on the right road. At the front, a 13-inch screen features an easy-to-use sat nav, music controls with every radio station under the sun, and the ability to connect your phone. From a child safety perspective, the Superb includes ISOFIX anchor points on the rear seats as standard, complete with Top Tether anchor points.

Real-World Road Trip Test

We drove the Superb from our home in Manchester to Oban in Scotland—a six-hour drive that served as a true test of endurance for both the family car and the family inside it. And I’m pleased to report that even after 45 episodes of Bluey and 25 rounds of I Spy, by the time we reached our weekend destination, everyone was still comfortable and cheerful. A family road trip miracle indeed.

The Škoda Superb Estate SportLine 2.0 costs from £44,715. Visit skoda.co.uk for more information.
