Waitrose, the upmarket supermarket chain with over 400 stores across the UK, has increased the price of its meal deal by 10%. The drink, main meal, and snack combo now costs £5.50, up from £5. The deal was first introduced in August 2023 and had remained at the same price until now.
Price Rise Follows Competitors
Waitrose, part of the John Lewis Partnership, is the latest grocer to raise the price of its popular lunchtime offer. Last summer, Tesco increased its meal deal by 25p, bringing the price to £3.85 for Clubcard members and £4.25 without the card. Sainsbury's also raised its meal deal by 20p, from £3.75 to £3.95.
Other Supermarket Comparisons
Co-op currently charges members £3.75 for its meal deal, while non-members pay £4.10. Asda offers its meal deal for £3.74.
A Waitrose spokesperson commented: "Our meal deal remains exceptional value for money – offering a wide variety of lunch options prepared with the quality ingredients you’d expect from Waitrose, and following the industry leading welfare standards we insist on."
