Leeds United urged to sign Harry Wilson by Gordon Strachan

Former Leeds United star Gordon Strachan has urged the club to consider signing Wales international Harry Wilson on a free transfer, with the Fulham winger expected to leave at the end of the month. Wilson, who joined Fulham from Liverpool five years ago, has not agreed to a new contract and is set to become a free agent.

Strachan backs Wilson move

Strachan, a former Leeds title winner, believes Wilson would be a great addition to the squad, which already includes several Welsh players. He stated, "Harry Wilson to Leeds United? There are 10 goals a season in there. I think he'd be a great signing. He can score 10 goals a season in the Premier League and he's free, that's definitely something to be looked at. Absolutely."

Wilson has been a key player for Fulham, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in the 2025/26 season. His best form came in December and January, where he was one of the top performers in the league. Strachan added, "He's a guy who's taken a while to find his feet. He wasn't a superstar kid, but now he looks to be a real asset. He looks to have taken responsibility at Fulham and he is a feared Premier League forward now, on the right side of the box he is a big threat."

Interest from other clubs

Aston Villa are the frontrunners to sign Wilson, with Tottenham Hotspur also reportedly interested. However, Strachan believes Elland Road is where Wilson could truly make his mark. Former Leeds player Gary McAllister also weighed in, suggesting Liverpool should consider re-signing him. "I watched Harry from a very young age, and the performances you've seen at Fulham are very similar to what I saw when he was playing for the youth team at Liverpool," McAllister said. "With his passing range, his ability to get a goal, and his work rate, he's becoming a very complete player. So, it's no surprise there's interest, as he's up at the end of the season, and I'm sure there will be a lot of takers. Liverpool should be one of them."

McAllister added, "Without a shadow of a doubt, Harry is a top-end Premier League player now. He has been on the international stage for his country as well, and he's been fantastic there. I'm really pleased for him because he's a very hard worker."
