Nationwide Building Society has issued a final reminder to its members, warning that time is running out to claim a £50 cash bonus. Customers who received their payment by post in the form of a cheque have just nine days left to pay it in, with a strict deadline of 1 January 2026.
The Big Nationwide Thank You: What You Need to Know
The £50 payments are part of a major customer reward scheme dubbed 'The Big Nationwide Thank You'. This initiative was launched following the building society's successful acquisition of Virgin Money. In total, the mutual is distributing over £600 million to approximately 12 million eligible members.
Payments began landing directly in members' bank accounts from 9 April 2025. However, for customers where a direct transfer was not possible, cheques were sent out starting 14 May 2025. It is these physical cheques that must now be deposited before the new year deadline to avoid missing out on the money.
Who Was Eligible for the £50 Payment?
To qualify for the bonus, customers needed to be a Nationwide member on 30 September 2024 and remain a member when the payment was made. Additionally, they had to meet at least one of the following criteria in the 12 months leading up to the end of September 2024:
- Made at least one qualifying transaction on a Nationwide current or savings account.
- Held a total of at least £100 across one or more Nationwide current and savings accounts.
- Owed at least £100 on a Nationwide residential mortgage.
Members who switched to a Nationwide current account using the Current Account Switch Service between 1 July and 30 September 2024 also met the requirements.
Don't Confuse It with the Fairer Share Payment
It is important to note that this £50 'Thank You' payment is separate from Nationwide's ongoing 'Fairer Share' loyalty scheme. The Fairer Share payment, worth £100, has been issued three times since 2023 and is a different annual reward for eligible members.
Nationwide states that all payments for 'The Big Nationwide Thank You' have now been made. If you believe you were eligible but have not received a payment or a cheque, the society advises checking your account or contacting them directly. With the cheque expiry date fast approaching, customers are urged to check their paperwork and act promptly to secure their £50 windfall.
