Three Chilean nationals have been arrested in Argentina in connection with an international burglary ring that allegedly targeted the homes of high-profile professional athletes in the United States. The suspects, identified as Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, Bastian Jimenez Freraut, and Pablo Zuniga Cartes, are accused of stealing more than $2 million worth of valuables from NFL and NBA players while they were away for games or team obligations.
Victims Include Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce
Among the victims are Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Milwaukee Bucks player Bobby Portis, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić, and Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. The stolen items include cash, luxury jewellery, watches, and sentimental items such as Travis Kelce's first Super Bowl jersey.
Patrick Mahomes previously expressed frustration over the burglary, stating, "It's frustrating" in a public comment. The arrests are linked to a 2025 federal complaint charging seven defendants, with one individual, Alexander Esteban Huaiquil-Chavez, already having pleaded guilty.
International Coordination
The arrests in Argentina mark a significant step in dismantling the burglary ring, which operated across international borders. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the operation and recover stolen property.
