Original Blues, a British knitwear brand founded in 1985, has ceased trading after entering voluntary liquidation on June 4. The company, known for its cotton knitwear, has been in business for 41 years.

Closure Details

The brand's online store has been taken offline and is now password protected. According to The Gazette, Neum Insolvency Ltd have been appointed as liquidators to handle the process.

Brand History

Original Blues was established in 1985, offering unrivalled cotton knitwear for over four decades. The clothing brand manufactured products from 100 per cent cotton using Indigo dye, with every item being produced in England.

The company's website previously stated: "Every piece in our Original Blues collection has been conceived and created by our own in-house design team whose inspiration is drawn from the natural world, in particular nautical and marine themes. So we can offer you an unrivalled range of unique, top quality knitwear incorporating a host of innovative and imaginative designs, textures and patterns."

Industry Context

The closure follows a string of other clothing retailers in the UK that have gone under. High street retailer Quiz entered administration on February 5 for the second time in under a year, with all branches closing their doors.
