Homeowner Hunter Perrin was caught completely off guard when a neighbor alerted him to the unusual visitors. "I was watching TV and my wife was doing yoga," Perrin recounted to the Associated Press. "There was a man standing in front of my door saying: 'They just landed.' What? I was very confused." Upon stepping outside, he discovered a group of anxious passengers visibly relieved to be on solid ground after the harrowing experience.
A Fairytale-Like Scene
Jenna Perrin described the surreal moment as something straight out of a Disney fairytale. "The balloon didn't hit our house or our trees. It was kissing the fence," she said, emphasizing the precision of the landing. Among the passengers were Brianna Avalos and her husband, who were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary with the balloon ride. Avalos shared that the pilot had informed everyone of the need for an emergency landing due to dwindling fuel supplies and unpredictable wind shifts.
"At first I was like: 'Oh my God! We're in a backyard! This is crazy!'" Avalos told KABC-TV, capturing the initial shock of the situation. After safely disembarking all passengers in the Perrins' yard, the pilot skillfully returned the balloon aloft and guided it to a nearby street for dismantling, a maneuver that left Avalos praising his abilities. "He was an amazing pilot," she stated.
Company Response and Typical Operations
Denni Barrett, owner of Magical Adventure, the company that operates the balloon rides, declined to identify the pilot but commended his actions. Barrett noted that the pilot had "exercised great judgment" and "done the right thing" under challenging circumstances. Typically, the company's landings occur in more spacious areas, such as the vineyards of California's Riverside county wine country. "Most of our landings are in wine country," Barrett explained. "Usually they're bigger backyards."
