Russia has directly threatened to strike targets in the UK, naming three locations in London, Leicester and Suffolk as alleged production facilities supplying Ukraine. The Russian defence ministry issued the list, warning that European countries are being drawn into war with Russia.
Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and current deputy head of the Russian Security Council, cautioned Western leaders to take the threat literally. “The list of European facilities which make drones [and] other equipment is a list of potential targets for the Russian armed forces,” he said. “When strikes become a reality depends on what comes next... Sleep well, European partners!”
The list includes what appears to be a Ukrainian missile maker with an address coinciding with an RAF base that operates as a key US air force hub. The Russian defence ministry accused these countries of escalating the conflict by increasing UAV production for Ukraine.
The ministry stated: “We regard this decision as a deliberate step leading to a sharp escalation of the military-political situation throughout Europe and the creeping transformation of these countries into Ukraine's strategic rear area.” It warned that “terrorist attacks against Russia” could lead to “unpredictable consequences”.
Other alleged production facilities were named in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Israel and Turkey.
