Tenerife Tourists Stunned by Unexpected Cloudy Skies

Tourists in Tenerife have been left astonished after looking up from their sunbeds to find the sky unexpectedly clouded over. Many holidaymakers, expecting sunny skies, have instead experienced overcast conditions that have sparked widespread discussion online.

Holidaymakers Share Their Surprise

A man named Sam T brought the issue to light, describing the weather in Tenerife as 'deceiving.' He posted footage from his sunbed showing blue sky gradually turning grey, with possible thunder and lightning in the background. The video quickly went viral, prompting others to share their own experiences.

One commenter said: 'I just don't get the hype with the Canaries. Beaches ain't pretty and there's always so much cloud.' Another wrote: 'Been here since the 19th and it's been so inconsistent. It's cloudy then a bit of sun. Rubbish really.' A third added: 'The weather sucks. No sunshine, clouds always around the mountains. Five more days then I go home. Never ever coming back. I'll try to leave earlier. Biggest disappointment of this year.'

Mixed Reactions and Local Climate

Despite the complaints, some visitors reported good weather. One person noted: 'I was here 15th to 22nd and had lush weather!' Another remarked: 'Still absolutely boiling though.' A third said: 'Been here since 18th April. It's been mid 20s every day - been scorching.'

Tenerife generally has distinct microclimates: the north is greener and cloudier, while the south is consistently sunny. Clouds often form over the central mountains and can spill to coastal areas from September to May. However, early 2026 has seen unusually bad weather, with March hit by Storm Therese, bringing heavy rain, high winds, flash flooding, and rare snowfall at high altitudes, causing travel disruption and flight cancellations.

Sam T admitted it has been hot during his stay but noted it has been 'overcast a lot of the time.' He added that while he has visited several times before, this was the first time he experienced so much cloud. The unexpected weather has clearly left many tourists disappointed, though some still enjoyed warm temperatures.
