Britain Braces for Summer-Like Warmth with Temperatures Set to Hit 22C

Britain is poised to enjoy an early taste of summer as a significant warm spell sweeps across the nation, with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 22C in some areas over the coming days. According to new weather maps, this balmy blast will bring widespread sunshine and conditions well above the seasonal average, affecting most parts of the UK.

Eight Regions to Experience Peak Warmth

Forecast data from WXCharts indicates that as many as eight regions could bask in temperatures reaching up to 22C next week, particularly towards the south of the country. Areas expected to top 21C include Somerset, Dorset, Berkshire, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, and Warwickshire, with the West Midlands and Staffordshire potentially seeing the mercury hit 22C. This is notably higher than April's average daytime maximum temperature of 14C.

Steven Keates, Deputy Chief Forecaster, commented on the outlook, stating, "High pressure will remain broadly in charge of the UK's weather for the remainder of this week and into the weekend. Most places will remain dry with a fair amount of sunshine too." He added that temperatures are likely to peak in the low twenties on Friday and over the weekend, though onshore breezes may keep coastal areas cooler and patchy frost could occur overnight in clear, calm conditions.

Widespread Warmth Across the UK

The warm weather is not limited to southern England. Forecasts show minimum temperatures of around 20C expected next Wednesday across many areas, with Wales experiencing highs between 14C and 20C, and Scotland seeing temperatures roughly between 11C and 19C. The current spell of sunny and dry conditions is set to continue into the weekend, offering plenty of sunshine for most of the country, though northern Scotland may see cloudier skies and patchy rain later.

This period of elevated temperatures represents a significant departure from typical April weather, with temperature anomaly maps indicating conditions considerably above average. Gardeners are advised to be cautious of potential overnight frosts in some regions, despite the overall warm trend.

Hay Fever Warning Amid High Pollen Levels

As the warm, sunny weather arrives, Britain's 16 million hay fever sufferers have been warned of high pollen levels. The Met Office's pollen forecast shows "High" levels across England and Wales on Saturday, with the Scottish Borders tipping into "Very High" territory. This peak season for tree pollen could trigger familiar symptoms for many.

Experts at St John's Ambulance recommend practical measures to reduce exposure, such as wearing wraparound sunglasses and applying Vaseline around the nostrils to help block pollen from entering the eyes and nose. These precautions may provide relief during this period of intense pollen activity.

Detailed Weather Outlook

The immediate forecast for Thursday predicts morning low cloud lifting to reveal a fine day with plenty of sunshine, though it will remain breezy in the southwest. While most areas will feel warm, eastern coasts may stay chilly. Looking ahead to Friday through Sunday, the weather is expected to stay largely fine and dry, with abundant sunshine. Some overnight fog and frost are likely, mainly in the east, but temperatures will remain above average for many, reinforcing the summer-like feel across Britain.
