The UK is set to experience a surge in temperatures this weekend, with highs of 21C forecast in parts of the country, making it hotter than Greece. The Met Office predicts a warm spell from Friday through the weekend, with most areas enjoying dry and sunny conditions.
According to forecast data from WXCharts, based on MetDesk modelling, London is among the warmest locations, reaching 21C, while Berkshire, Surrey, and the West Midlands are also expected to see similar highs. Other areas, including Kent, Crawley, and Reading, are forecast to peak around 20C. Regions from Leeds southwards, including the Midlands, Wales, and the South East, will see temperatures between 17C and 21C.
Scotland will be cooler, with temperatures ranging from 7C to 9C in many areas, though Dumfries and Galloway could reach 17C. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has issued a 'very high' wildfire risk warning for Glasgow, where temperatures could hit 21C.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates said high pressure would remain in charge through the weekend, bringing dry and sunny weather for most. However, cloudier conditions and patchy rain are possible for northern Scotland later in the weekend. Onshore breezes will keep some coastal areas cooler.
The long-range forecast for April 28 to May 7 indicates continued high pressure, with predominantly dry conditions and temperatures above normal. Rain is expected to be limited, mainly affecting the far west and northwest.
