Lanzarote Tourists Vow Never to Return After Bad Weather

Lanzarote has long been a beloved holiday destination for British and European tourists, but recent visitors have expressed dismay over unexpected weather conditions that have marred their trips. The Canary Island, known for its volcanic landscapes and sunny climate, has experienced an unusually cold and wet winter, leaving many holidaymakers disappointed.

Tourists Share Disappointment on Social Media

Videos circulating on TikTok have highlighted the issue, with users like Keyra Griffiths urging others not to visit after her five-day stay saw rain on four days. She described the experience as a waste of money and said she would not return. Other tourists echoed her sentiments, with one stating, "Here now. What a waste of money," and another saying, "I went for 16 days in March. I wouldn't step foot there again. Never in my life have I worn a fleece on a holiday abroad."

However, not all feedback has been negative. Some visitors reported pleasant weather, with one noting, "I went in April, 13 to 21. Was lovely weather! Only had one bad day!" Another added, "I was there at the end of March for 10 days, and the weather was lovely."

Unseasonable Weather Patterns

Lanzarote has endured a spell of unpredictable weather at the start of the year, with many describing it as the coldest and wettest winter in years. Fierce winds, torrential rain, and storms such as Storm Therese and Storm Regina have been uncharacteristic for the island, which typically enjoys mild winters. This has caught many visitors off guard, who expected the usual winter sun.

Despite these setbacks, Lanzarote remains a popular year-round destination, attracting over three million tourists annually, primarily from the UK, Ireland, and Germany. Its striking volcanic landscapes, stunning beaches, and temperate climate continue to draw visitors, though the recent weather has prompted some to reconsider.

With summer approaching, there is hope for improved conditions. The Spanish tourist office and Turismo Lanzarote have been contacted for comment.
