Tragic Discovery in Search for Missing German Tourist
Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in the search for Matthias Beutin, a German tourist who went missing on the Isle of Skye. The 57-year-old had been the subject of an extensive multi-agency search operation since his disappearance in early October.
Last Known Sighting and Disappearance
Matthias Beutin was last seen at the Blaven car park, near Loch Slapin, at approximately 11:30am on Thursday, October 9. The experienced hiker had informed family members of his intention to climb Bla Bheinn, one of the most notable Munros on the island. Concerns were raised when he failed to make contact with his family following his planned ascent.
A substantial search mission was immediately launched, involving multiple mountain rescue teams and police resources. The rugged terrain and changeable weather conditions characteristic of the Scottish Highlands presented significant challenges to search efforts throughout the operation.
Body Found Near Coire Dubh
In a sad update to the search, police confirmed that a body was discovered near Coire Dubh, in the Blaven area, more than a month after Mr Beutin's disappearance. While formal identification is yet to be completed, authorities have stated they are confident the body is that of the missing German national and have informed his next of kin.
The discovery brings a tragic conclusion to the extensive search efforts that have captivated the local community and hiking fraternity. Police Scotland have indicated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
