Amazon Web Services Down: AWS Probes CloudFront Outage as Errors Surge
AWS Probes CloudFront Outage as Errors Surge

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced it is investigating a disruption affecting its CloudFront content delivery network service, following widespread user reports of errors.

AWS Confirms Investigation into CloudFront Errors

On its service health dashboard, AWS stated that CloudFront customers are experiencing 5xx errors. The company posted: "Jul 16 1:44 AM PDT We are investigating increased 5xx errors for Cloudfront customers utilizing VPC Origins connectivity."

Downdetector, a platform that aggregates user-reported outages, recorded more than 350 reports of issues with AWS at around 9:30 AM BST on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The spike in reports indicates a significant number of users affected by the outage.

Impact on CloudFront Users

The 5xx errors are server-side errors, meaning that the AWS servers are unable to fulfill a valid request. This can result in websites and applications that rely on CloudFront becoming slow or inaccessible. CloudFront is a widely used content delivery network (CDN) that accelerates the delivery of web content, including videos, APIs, and static assets, to users globally.

AWS has not yet provided an estimated time for resolution or detailed the root cause of the issue. The company continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Previous AWS Outages

This is not the first time AWS has faced service disruptions. In recent years, the cloud computing giant has experienced several high-profile outages affecting major websites and services. AWS remains the dominant player in the cloud market, with a significant share of global cloud infrastructure services.

Users and businesses that depend on AWS services are advised to check the AWS Service Health Dashboard for the latest updates and to implement fallback measures where possible.
