President Donald Trump has announced he will deliver a speech to the nation on Thursday evening, teasing what he described as “really, really big news.” The address is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern time, as confirmed by a post on his Truth Social platform written in the third person. The message stated: “President Trump will be making a Speech to the Nation on Thursday evening, at 9 P.M. Eastern. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Focus on Election Integrity
While the initial post did not specify the speech’s topic, Trump later confirmed to reporters that election integrity would be a central theme. When asked whether the speech concerns elections, he replied: “Well, I’d rather save it, it will concern that subject, and we’ll have a couple of other things to say, but I’d rather save it.” He added: “It doesn’t get bigger because without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country.” Trump also hinted at additional announcements, stating: “We’ll be discussing other things too, but it’s going to be a very big announcement.”
Context of Previous Addresses
This will be Trump’s third prime-time speech during his second term. Earlier addresses included one on his administration’s economic record last December and another providing an update on the conflict with Iran. A previous speech to the nation followed the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Ongoing Tensions with Iran
The address comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. After a ceasefire was agreed in April and a memorandum of understanding signed in June, Iran and the US have exchanged fire this week. Trump previously announced the reinstatement of a blockade of Iranian ports, which had been lifted last month. The ongoing clashes have fueled concerns of a return to full-blown conflict, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, where talks have stalled due to escalating violence triggered by Iranian attacks on cargo ships.
