McDonald's Strawberry Candyfloss Frappé Is Best New Drink in Decades
McDonald's Strawberry Candyfloss Frappé Is Best in Decades

McDonald's has launched a new drink, the Strawberry Candyfloss Frappé, which an early taster describes as the best item from the chain in decades. The beverage, priced at £3.69 for a medium, will be available from July 14 as part of the fast-food giant's summer menu refresh.

First Taste of the Candyfloss Frappé

Shania King-Soyza, an Audience Writer for Spare Time, was among the first to sample the new offering. She praised its balanced flavour, noting that despite the candyfloss-inspired name, it is not excessively sweet. “It’s not excessively sweet or cloying; rather, it provides a refreshing, fruity taste that’s perfectly balanced,” she wrote. The drink has a velvety consistency and a strawberry flavour that avoids the artificial taste common in such confections.

King-Soyza’s boyfriend, who initially hesitated because McDonald's marketed the drink as a "girly-pop drink," ended up liking it even more. He said: "The drink was smooth, delicious and had the right amount of sweetness. It was refreshing and perfect for this heatwave."

McDonald's Summer Menu Lineup

The Strawberry Candyfloss Frappé leads a new wave of McCafé flavours. A McDonald's spokesperson said: "McDonald's is dialling up the summer vibes with a fresh wave of McCafé flavours landing from July 14. [This is] led by the NEW Strawberry Candyfloss Frappé, a sweet, creamy, nostalgia-packed treat made for sunny days and social feeds. Think strawberry, candyfloss, whipped cream and glistening sprinkles... the ultimate 'girly-pop' sip of the season."

Other new and returning summer drinks include the Vanilla Matcha Frappé (£3.69), which is currently available until supplies run out, and the Green Apple x Sprite Zero (£2.29). The Frozen Cherry Lemonade (£3.09) will be offered until late August, when it will be replaced by the Frozen Strawberry Lemonade. The Chocolate Honeycomb Frappé (£3.69) also returns, described as a rich chocolate frappé topped with cream and crunchy honeycomb pieces. Additional options include Raspberry x Sprite Zero (£2.29) and Pineapple x Sprite Zero (£2.29).

Permanent Menu Addition Suggested

King-Soyza argues that the Candyfloss Frappé deserves a permanent spot on the menu, as she continues to crave its "luscious strawberry deliciousness." The drink is part of McDonald's FIFA World Cup celebrations, which also feature meals with collectable prizes and new burgers like the Sweet Carolina BBQ Stack and the Mexican Chipotle Chicken. However, the frappé stands out as a genuinely exceptional addition after decades of unremarkable menu items, according to the reviewer.
