Manchester United's Leny Yoro Urges Maguire and Casemiro to Extend Contracts
Yoro Wants Maguire and Casemiro to Stay at Manchester United

Manchester United Defender Leny Yoro Advocates for Contract Extensions of Key Teammates

Manchester United's young centre-back, Leny Yoro, has made a heartfelt plea for the club to retain the services of experienced defenders Harry Maguire and Casemiro beyond the current season. The 20-year-old Frenchman believes their continued presence is vital as United strive to secure a coveted Champions League qualification spot.

Integral Roles in United's Resurgence Under Carrick

Since Michael Carrick assumed the role of head coach in January, Manchester United have experienced a remarkable turnaround in form, winning seven out of their nine matches. Both Maguire, aged 33, and Casemiro, 34, have been instrumental in this revival, featuring in every starting lineup under Carrick's tenure. However, uncertainty looms as their contracts, along with Carrick's, are set to expire this summer, casting doubt on their futures at Old Trafford.

Yoro was particularly vocal in his support for Maguire, who has consistently delivered strong performances during this period. "Yeah, of course, having Harry in the team is good for us," Yoro stated. "If he can stay next season, it's really good for us, so I hope he's going to extend his contract and he can stay with us. We'll see, we'll see anyway." Maguire, who is reportedly eyeing an England recall, has re-established himself as a key figure after a mixed journey since his record £80 million transfer in 2019.

Casemiro's Influence and Fan Support

The young defender also emphasised the importance of Casemiro, whose impact was highlighted in United's crucial 3-1 victory against Aston Villa, where the Brazilian scored the opening goal. During the match, fans were heard chanting for Casemiro to stay for "one more year," a sentiment Yoro wholeheartedly endorsed. "Everyone wanted him to stay. He's a really important player for us, he showed it again today," Yoro remarked.

He further elaborated on Casemiro's value, noting, "Even in the dressing room, every day, he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and even outside the pitch." Despite this, Casemiro, a former Real Madrid star, indicated in January his intention to depart this summer, making a new contract seem less probable compared to Maguire's situation.

Yoro's Personal Growth and Focus on Champions League Ambitions

Yoro himself has navigated a challenging phase earlier in the campaign and attributes his improved form to playing alongside seasoned professionals like Maguire. "I think every player has this phase in a season," he reflected. "Sometimes you have bad moments, bad performances, and I'm happy to do good games now, to rebound well, so I'm just happy with the result."

He added that Maguire's mentorship has been invaluable, saying, "With all the experiences he has, he gave a lot of tips, he spoke to me a lot on the pitch, so this helped me a lot. He always speaks with me, like with the striker, sometimes he speaks before the game, or at half-time, about positioning as well, so playing with him is really good for me."

Looking forward, Yoro is concentrated on achieving a top-four finish and restoring Champions League football to Old Trafford. "I think every player wants to play Champions League, especially when you play for United," he affirmed. "This club has to play the Champions League, so hopefully we're going to get it next season." The defender's comments underscore the critical role that experienced players like Maguire and Casemiro play in both on-field success and the development of younger talents within the squad.
