Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has issued a blistering response to criticism from Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney following the Reds' humiliating 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid at Anfield.
The Dutch defender didn't hold back when questioned about Rooney's comments, which suggested Liverpool's defence had been "all over the place" during their Champions League collapse after leading 2-0 early in the match.

When presented with Rooney's assessment, Van Dijk delivered a cutting retort: "He is entitled to his opinion, but if a former player says something about you, especially when they've played for Manchester United, it could be seen as trying to bring you down."
The Liverpool skipper emphasised his commitment to the club, stating: "I know I play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm giving everything each and every day. We all know last week was unacceptable, but it's too easy to point the finger at individuals."
