Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has responded to criticism from Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, who suggested the Egyptian's performances have declined due to age. Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney stated that Salah's 'legs have gone', citing the 33-year-old's less prolific season as evidence.
Salah's Response
In an interview with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard for TNT Sports, Salah dismissed the claims, saying: 'I feel good, body wise I feel all right. I didn't become old overnight. Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give and I will see what is best for me.'
Season Performance
Salah, who was Liverpool's top scorer in their title-winning campaign last season, has managed only seven Premier League goals this term. He has a year left on his contract but has agreed to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
- Salah is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss Sunday's match against Manchester United.
- He has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and European clubs.
- Liverpool have three remaining fixtures after facing United: Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Brentford.
Rooney's Criticism
Rooney had said: 'I've said this since the start of the season, age gets to us all and your legs go. I think that's happened to Salah this season and Virgil van Dijk hasn't been the same this season.'
Salah countered: 'I played many games this season. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of good options. Physically, I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off.'
Injury Update
The forward provided an update on his recovery: 'For sure, the injury is fine. I will hopefully be back before Brentford on the final day.'
Salah concluded: 'To go through the season, I feel like this is the right thing to do now and I have peace with it. The season was tough for all of us. I don't want to say much.'
