David Haye believes there is 'more of a demand' for Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua than 'ever before.' The former two-time heavyweight champion said the long-awaited clash between the British rivals is finally set to happen later this year.
Fury and Joshua Finally Agree to Fight
Last month, it was announced that Fury and Joshua had agreed to meet in the ring. Joshua will first have a tune-up fight against Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25. Fury recently returned to action, outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Haye Dismisses Critics
Many argue the two stars are past their peak, but Haye insists there is still huge demand. 'There's more of a demand for the fight now than ever before,' he told Mirror Fighting. 'People can say what they want, "oh, fight's too late." No, it's not. There's more money in the pot for them today than there was five, six, seven years ago.'
Haye added: 'Both became champion, unified belts, both lost the belts to the same guy. And it's... we all want to see it. Particularly in Britain.'
No Belts Needed
Haye is not concerned that there will be no world title on the line. 'Who cares what belt it is? It doesn't need a belt,' he said. 'You know both characters inside and out. You've seen them win, you've seen them lose. That's going to get everybody tuned in.'
He also suggested the fight could lead to multiple meetings, similar to Fury's trilogy with Deontay Wilder. 'I think they could do what Deontay Wilder did. I'm sure the styles are going to gel nicely.'
Providing Joshua wins his comeback fight, he and Fury will meet in November, most likely at Wembley, broadcast live on Netflix. Haye believes it will break box office records.
