Fabregas: 'Of Course' I'll Manage in Premier League

Cesc Fabregas has given Chelsea the two-word response they wanted after Como opened the door for his exit. The 39-year-old former Blues midfielder has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge following the sacking of Liam Rosenior. Fabregas, who is currently head coach of Serie A side Como, revealed in an interview that he will 'of course' return to the Premier League one day.

Fabregas Reacts to Chelsea Links

Speaking to the Telegraph, Fabregas said: "The Premier League is the best league in the world. I've always been very, very clear about it. I felt it as a player, I feel it as a coach, as a fan." He added: "But [Jose] Mourinho told me one day when I was at Chelsea, 'I still have 30 years to work'. So I could be here [Como] for 10 years, and you can still go to the Premier League in 12, 15 years."

Fabregas, who spent 12 and a half years playing in England for Arsenal and Chelsea, acknowledged the unpredictability of football. "Football is so unpredictable, it changes in one second. One day, you are the best. The day after, you are the worst. So let's enjoy the moment. I like to enjoy the moment. It's beautiful what we are living here. Let's see what the future holds."

Como President Opens Door

Como president Mirwan Suwarso recently stated that Fabregas would be free to leave 'if he wishes', fueling speculation of a move to Chelsea. Fabregas has been instrumental in Como's rise, with the club currently sitting fifth in Serie A in just their second season in the Italian top flight. He took charge after leading them to promotion in 2024, having previously served as caretaker and first-team coach.

At Como, Fabregas enjoys significant control over football decisions, a luxury he might not have at Chelsea, which has five sporting directors. "I take all the football decisions," Fabregas explained. "The sporting director, he's day-to-day with me and we see football the same way. The signings, we work with data, we have our scouting and stuff, but it needs to be something that I believe in. It needs to be a player that I'm convinced about."

He added: "I'm so happy and lucky that we have a president that trusts me a lot and has given me the confidence to go and take all the football decisions. That, for me, is really important."

Chelsea's Search for a Permanent Manager

Chelsea have placed Calum McFarlane in charge until the end of the season, giving them time to appoint a permanent successor to Rosenior. The Blues have reportedly contacted Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva, but Fabregas remains a strong candidate given his connection to the club and his impressive managerial record.

Fabregas, who is also a stakeholder in Como, has guided the team to European contention. His stock continues to rise, and his comments will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans hoping for a return of the club legend. Whether he will leave the serene surroundings of Lake Como for the pressures of Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, but Fabregas has made his long-term intentions clear.
