Jonny Clayton Targets Luke Humphries to Extend Premier League Dominance

Jonny Clayton has set his sights on defeating Luke Humphries once again as he aims to continue his remarkable form in the Premier League. The Welshman, who currently leads the standings, is determined to maintain his position at the top of the table.

Clayton's Recent Success and Health Challenges

Clayton claimed his second weekly win of the year in Nottingham last week, overcoming Humphries in the final. This victory came despite him suffering from gout in his ankle, which forced him to limp through the match. To aid his recovery, he withdrew from the European Tour event in Germany last weekend, ensuring he is ready for the upcoming quarter-final clash in Dublin.

"Two nightly wins in the first six weeks, it's brilliant," said Clayton, who holds an eight-point advantage over Luke Littler. "I wasn't expecting to do so well but it's happening. I'm looking for two points week-in, week-out, and anything else is a bonus."

Focus on Maintaining League Leadership

Clayton expressed his enthusiasm for being at the summit of the Premier League, stating, "I love it. I'm top of the league and that's where I want to be. It's hard to catch the ones on top." He acknowledged the challenge posed by Humphries, adding, "I know that Luke will be coming out all guns blazing in Dublin as well but my aim is to win two points. I don't care who I play against, I need two points on that board."

Other Key Matches in Dublin

Meanwhile, Luke Littler will attempt to close the gap on Clayton as he opens his match against Stephen Bunting. Littler, the double world champion, secured his first nightly win in Cardiff a fortnight ago and hopes to replicate that success in Dublin.

The event also features a double Dutch opening, with Gian van Veen taking on Michael van Gerwen. Van Gerwen experienced a significant upset in the European Tour event, exiting in his first match despite being the top seed.

In the other semi-final, Josh Rock, who has yet to earn a point in a disappointing debut campaign, faces Gerwyn Price. This match presents an opportunity for Rock to turn his season around against a formidable opponent.
