The Collingwood Magpies have reportedly entered the race to secure the services of Lachie Neale, as the Brisbane Lions star's future remains shrouded in uncertainty. The 32-year-old midfielder is expected to deliberate on his future at Brisbane once his contract expires at the end of the season, with his recent marriage breakdown anticipated to significantly influence his decision regarding which team he will represent next.
Front Runners and Emerging Contenders
West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers are still considered the frontrunners to acquire Neale's signature should he part ways with the Lions. This follows his wife Jules relocating to Perth with their two children after their highly publicised split. However, fresh reports indicate that Neale is not confining his options to a return to Western Australia.
According to News Corp, the two-time premiership winner is now being pursued by the Magpies as the club endeavours to sustain its premiership window while retaining its top draft picks. If the move materialises, Neale would emulate fellow Brownlow Medal winner Tom Mitchell, who concluded his career with Collingwood after starring for Hawthorn and Sydney.
South Australian Interest
The latest speculation emerges just days after claims that Neale could potentially relocate to South Australia. Reports suggest that both Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows would eagerly welcome Neale into their ranks. A potentially decisive factor is that Neale's parents reside in Robe, South Australia, approximately 300 kilometres south of Adelaide. His parents have been transporting his daughter and son across the country to spend time with him, meaning a move to Adelaide would significantly reduce their travel time.
Coach's Comments and On-Field Form
Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has stated, 'We are not going to hold anyone to ransom,' when questioned about Neale's future. Given Neale's impressive form at the start of the 2026 season, he will not lack suitors if he decides to depart Queensland.
