MMA icon Conor McGregor fought back tears as he spoke publicly for the first time about the catastrophic fire that ravaged his €2 million Dublin pub, the Black Forge Inn.
The former UFC champion, visibly emotional in a video posted to social media, described the blaze as "heartbreaking" but pledged to restore the Crumlin establishment to its former glory.
Rising from the Ashes
"We will rebuild. We will rise again," McGregor declared, his voice cracking with emotion. The fire, which broke out in the early hours, caused extensive damage to the premium gastropub that McGregor purchased in 2019 for €1.5-€2 million.
Community Impact
The Black Forge Inn had become a local landmark since McGregor's acquisition, known for hosting celebrity events and serving premium whiskey from the fighter's Proper No. Twelve brand. Regular patrons and Dublin residents have flooded social media with messages of support for the devastated owner.
Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze, which required multiple fire engines to bring under control. No injuries were reported in the incident.
McGregor's Emotional Pledge
In his emotional address, McGregor thanked emergency services and vowed: "This isn't the end for the Black Forge. It's just another challenge we'll overcome together." The fighter, who recently returned to training after injury, appeared determined to channel his famous fighting spirit into the rebuilding effort.
The pub had become a symbol of McGregor's business ventures outside the octagon, representing his roots in Dublin's southside. Its potential temporary closure deals a blow to local employment and the area's hospitality scene.
