At just 23 years old and with only 13 professional fights to his name, British boxing sensation Adam Azim is already mapping out a detailed plan for his life after the sport.
An Early Vision for Retirement
Azim, who returns to the ring tonight against Kurt Scoby on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr's highly anticipated rematch with Conor Benn, has set his sights on retiring at the age of 31 to pursue business ventures and family life.
"A lot of people say the pinnacle of a boxer's career - and the age we peak at as men - is 31 but I feel like that's the age I want to retire and enjoy life," Azim revealed. "I plan to become an entrepreneur and spend some time with my wife and hopefully we'll have some kids by then."
From Boxing Ring to Business Venture
The promising super-lightweight already has specific business ideas in mind, particularly inspired by his experiences during training camps. "I have a few ideas, I would like to open a franchise one day," he said. "We have lots of restaurants around the gym; Scottish, Caribbean, Somalian... when I'm in camp I'm just scrolling on TikTok looking at all the food I can't have until after the fight."
Azim emphasized that his future business would align with his disciplined lifestyle, noting: "I'm really good with my diet and even after I retire my franchise would have to be healthy food."
Navigating Career Challenges
The young fighter's career has experienced some recent turbulence despite his impressive rise. After being named British boxing's Young Fighter of the Year in 2024 following two impressive stoppage wins, Azim added another victory in February.
However, his momentum stalled when a summer bout was cancelled just hours before the first bell. Tonight's fight was originally scheduled against Zaur Abdullaev, but Kurt Scoby has stepped in as a late replacement.
Despite these disruptions, Azim maintains a positive perspective. "I don't get frustrated, sometimes I think it's a blessing," he added. "I'm fighting on a big show in front of 70,000 people; for me it's an honour and a privilege."
Following tonight's bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Azim intends to focus on securing a world title shot, with domestic rival Dalton Smith firmly in his sights. Yet even as he prepares for this important fight, his long-term vision extends far beyond the boxing ring.
