Laura Loomer Demands Tim Scott Resign Over Trump Obama Video Rebuke
Right-wing media personality Laura Loomer issued a forceful demand on Friday for Senator Tim Scott to step down from his leadership role at the National Republican Senatorial Committee. This demand came after Scott publicly criticized former President Donald Trump over a controversial video that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama using racist imagery.
Loomer's Fiery Social Media Outburst
Loomer, who describes herself as the Trump administration's 'chief loyalty enforcer', launched a series of aggressive posts on social media platform X targeting the South Carolina senator. Scott holds the distinction of being the sole black Republican in the United States Senate. 'Someone who is willing to give the Democrats ammunition like that in the middle of a midterm election year is too stupid to be in charge,' Loomer declared in one post.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which Scott chairs, is dedicated to electing Republicans to the U.S. Senate. Loomer expressed her longstanding opposition to his appointment, stating, 'I warned President Trump it was a terrible idea for Tim Scott to be chair of the NRSC and he told me to "give him a chance." I always said it was a bad idea.' She further escalated her rhetoric, writing, 'Donald Trump is WAY TOO NICE to these traitors. I remain undefeated in my ability to detect horrible people for President Trump. F*** you! [Tim Scott] Resign, Traitor!'
The Controversial Video and Scott's Response
The controversy stems from a video posted overnight on Trump's Truth Social account. The clip concluded with a segment from an AI-generated Lion King-themed video that portrayed former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys, a deeply racist stereotype. Senator Scott responded swiftly online, condemning the content. 'Praying it was fake because it's the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House. The President should remove it,' Scott stated.
A handful of Scott's Republican colleagues in both the Senate and the House of Representatives joined Democrats in criticizing the video. A Trump administration official later explained to the Daily Mail that the video was 'an obvious screen recording,' and that 'the boomer who posted it to X didn't trim off the excess when the next reel started to auto play.' The official claimed the racist imagery was an unintentional inclusion at the end of a longer reel that depicted other Democrats as animals and Trump as the Lion King.
'The aide didn't notice that one second portion at the end of the video and it was never seen by the president,' the Trump official added. The video was subsequently removed from Truth Social, marking a rare reversal by the Trump White House, which has not identified the aide responsible for the post.
Loomer's Continued Attacks and Political Context
Loomer remained adamant that Scott was at fault, shifting blame from the video's posting. 'I love how the GOP is so useless but they always have time to attack President Trump,' she posted. In another message, she accused Scott of disloyalty, writing, 'Why are you always working to undermine him? You have always been a Trump hater. You even ran against him.'
This reference pertains to Scott's brief challenge against Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Scott withdrew from the race in November 2023 before any primary votes were cast and later endorsed Trump. Loomer criticized Scott's timing, noting that he could have addressed the matter privately with Trump at a dinner for Republican senators scheduled for Friday night at Mar-a-Lago, as the NRSC winter meeting was convening in Palm Beach, Florida.
'Scott could have waited to speak to Trump today at the dinner,' Loomer argued. 'But he’s always been a RINO saboteur so he did it publicly.' Senator Scott's team did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment on Loomer's demands. This incident highlights ongoing internal tensions within the Republican Party regarding loyalty to Donald Trump and the handling of racially sensitive matters.
