Lauren Silverman Reveals Malibu Family Holiday and Parenting Shift on Phone Use
Lauren Silverman has offered a glimpse into her recent family vacation in Malibu, where she enjoyed quality time with fiancé Simon Cowell and their son Eric. The 48-year-old mother-of-two shared numerous snaps from the sunny coastal retreat, highlighting beach outings and even a surfing attempt prompted by her 12-year-old son.
Scenes from a Malibu Escape
In the images, Lauren appears chic in a neutral-toned ensemble featuring a quarter-zip jacket, leggings, a hat, and sunglasses as she embraces both Eric and Simon. Eric is pictured fresh from the ocean in his wetsuit, while Simon sports his signature all-black look with a T-shirt, padded jacket, and aviator shades. Lauren also posted a photo from her own surfing session, posing with two friends on the beach in wetsuits.
Reflecting on the getaway, Lauren expressed gratitude, stating, "Malibu round up part two. Our trip has finally come to an end but what a beautiful time we have all had together. Sunshine, the outdoors, Easter and so much quality time… and yes, Eric even convinced me to try surfing! Safe to say I surprised myself. I love my family and friends. Malibu .. you never disappoint. Always grateful."
She added that her next stop would be Miami to visit her other son Adam at university, along with her parents and sister, saying, "Can’t wait to see them all." Additional highlights included a stunning selfie in Ray-Bans and a fedora, showcasing her toned frame in a white vest top, and a picture of her in a field with a horse, wearing an Alo jacket with wide-legged trousers and trainers.
A Change in Phone Policy for Son Eric
The holiday comes after Lauren opened up about why she backtracked on her strict no-phone rules for Eric, revealing that Simon hasn't owned a mobile phone for nearly eight years. Initially, the couple was firmly against Eric having a phone, but they reconsidered after discovering he had downloaded Snapchat on Lauren's device.
Lauren explained on Instagram, "For a long time Simon and I were very firm about one thing, no phone for Eric. (Simon himself hasn’t had a phone for nearly 8 years!). But recently Eric had a very honest conversation with us about it that made us rethink our position slightly."
She detailed their compromise: Eric now has a phone with clear boundaries, primarily no social media, allowing only texting and calling friends and family. Lauren emphasized, "I changed my mind about my 12-year-old son having a phone... But I still said no to social media. Whether we like it or not, texting has become a part of childhood."
She noted that plans, jokes, and friendships often develop through texting, and children can feel left out if excluded. Lauren admitted that while she believed delaying smartphone access was beneficial, everything changed when she found Eric secretly messaging friends on Snapchat. This prompted a discussion rather than a confrontation, leading to their new approach.
Strict Rules and Family Values
Lauren outlined the strict rules in place: no phones in Eric's bedroom, at the dinner table, or during family time. She concluded, "Technology should never replace real life." Fans praised her "clever approach" in the comments, with messages like "Smart mum. You are such a role model" and "bravo."
Simon's decision to give up his phone in 2018 was driven by a desire to improve his mental health and focus. He told The Mail on Sunday at the time, "I literally have not been on my phone. The difference it made was that I became more aware of the people around me and way more focused. The thing I get irritated with is when you have a meeting everyone's on their phone – and I was probably in that place too. You can't concentrate. It has been so good for my mental health. It's a very strange experience but it really is good for you and it has absolutely made me happier."
This blend of family bonding in Malibu and thoughtful parenting decisions highlights Lauren Silverman's approach to balancing modern technology with traditional family values, all while enjoying quality time with her loved ones.
