Two paramedics among five injured after car crashes into ambulance on M2 slip road

Two paramedics are among five people taken to hospital after an ambulance was involved in a crash on an M2 slip road. The collision occurred at the Brooms Wood Interchange at Junction 4 for Gillingham shortly before 9pm on August 29.

One female paramedic was taken to a London hospital, while another was taken to Tunbridge Wells for treatment. Both are in a non-life-threatening condition. The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time, as it was en route to a hospital transfer.

Two men travelling in a car were also taken to hospital, and a third member of the public was taken for checks. The London-bound and coast-bound exits were closed overnight and reopened at around 6.30am on August 30. Hoath Way was also closed between the M2 and the roundabout for Hempstead Valley and Wigmore.

Residents reported hearing "an almighty bang" before emergency services arrived. An air ambulance landed in Kings Frith park shortly before 9.45pm. Dave Harris, 73, who lives in Wigmore, said: "I was sitting indoors and there was an almighty bang. I took the dogs out and saw all the lights [on the slip-road]."

An ambulance service spokesman said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene alongside fellow emergency services following reports of injuries to the two female crew members on board the ambulance and injuries to members of the public in another vehicle. Our thoughts are with all those involved in the incident, including all those who responded."
