Jon Hamm Expresses Support for Amanda Peet Amid Cancer Battle and Family Loss
Jon Hamm Supports Amanda Peet Through Cancer and Loss

Jon Hamm has publicly expressed his admiration and support for his co-star Amanda Peet as she navigates a challenging period involving a breast cancer diagnosis and the loss of both her parents. The actors work together on the Apple TV+ dark comedy series "Your Friends & Neighbors," which recently premiered its second season.

Heartfelt Praise in Difficult Times

In a recent interview with People magazine, Hamm, 55, revealed that he has been aware of Peet's cancer diagnosis for some time. "She had told me about her diagnosis sometime ago, and it's a very, very tricky balance to strike," the acclaimed "Mad Men" star stated. He went on to commend Peet for managing her personal struggles while maintaining her professional commitments.

Navigating Personal Loss and Professional Demands

Hamm specifically addressed how Peet has handled the death of her parents while continuing her career. "There's never a good time to go through that. And obviously, she's managing that as well as being a mom, and being a wife, and being a survivor on her own — all of that while maintaining a career and maintaining this high level of work that she's doing is just tremendous," he emphasized.

The actor shared that he too has experienced parental loss, though at a younger age. When Peet first informed him of her diagnosis, Hamm recalled responding with compassion and offering his support. "I've known her and her family for some time, so my heart goes out to her," he added, "and I'm happy that she's healthy."

Peet's Personal Revelation in The New Yorker

Last month, Peet, 54, published a deeply personal essay in The New Yorker titled "My Season of Ativan," where she detailed the heartbreaking sequence of events that began in August 2025. She revealed that her doctor discovered a tumor in her breast at the same time both of her parents were receiving end-of-life hospice care.

A Double Tragedy Unfolds

In her essay, Peet described receiving the news about her father's rapidly declining health shortly after learning of her own diagnosis. "My sister called: our father was about to die. Our parents, long divorced, were both in hospice, on opposite coasts," she wrote. The "Whole Nine Yards" actress explained that while her mother had been in hospice since June, her father's decline was more sudden.

Peet further shared that in the weeks following her first clear MRI scan, she learned her mother was nearing the end of her battle with Parkinson's disease. She made the difficult decision not to share her cancer diagnosis with her mother, concerned it might cause additional confusion during her final days.

Return to "Your Friends & Neighbors"

Despite these personal challenges, Peet has returned for the second season of "Your Friends & Neighbors," which premiered on Apple TV+. The series features Hamm as Andrew "Coop" Cooper, a recently divorced man who turns to robbing his wealthy neighbors to survive. New episodes continue to air weekly on the streaming platform.

Hamm's public expression of support highlights the strong bond between the co-stars and Peet's remarkable resilience during an exceptionally difficult period in her life.
