Radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands is reportedly putting out feelers for a wealthy investor to help him purchase the Australian Radio Network (ARN), in a bold move following his high-profile dismissal and ongoing legal battle with the company.
Legal Dispute and Financial Ambitions
The 54-year-old broadcaster, currently embroiled in a massive legal stoush with ARN after they terminated his $100 million contract and axed The Kyle & Jackie O Show, is said to be willing to invest $10 million of his own money into buying the network. However, he requires an additional $90 million from an investor to make the deal viable, according to reports from News.com.au.
Plans for Leadership Overhaul
A source close to the situation revealed that Sandilands would ideally take over ARN and completely overhaul the leadership team. "I don't think he would want to leave things the way they are. He would want his hands on all the levers; otherwise, there is no real point in being an owner," the insider stated. "He has done every job in radio and he knows what not to do."
The source further indicated that Sandilands is so eager to return to radio that he would even consider negotiating a pay cut from his previous $10 million annual salary. "He would be open to it," they said, noting that the terms would need to be favourable for the industry titan to proceed.
Interest from Wealthy Notables
According to the insider, several wealthy individuals have expressed interest in partnering with Sandilands to purchase ARN. Whispers about the shock jock's potential takeover plans first emerged last month, before news broke of his termination from the network.
While awaiting his fate at ARN following co-host Jackie 'O' Henderson's departure, Sandilands reportedly claimed during a taping of Australian Idol—where he serves as a judge—that he intended to buy the network. Craig Bruce, Sandilands' former boss at 2DayFM, announced this development on his Game Changers Radio page in March.
Federal Court Battle
The veteran radio personality is currently engaged in a blockbuster legal dispute with ARN, which has escalated to the Federal Court. Sandilands recently commenced action, alleging that ARN deliberately sabotaged his $100 million contract.
He claims that the altercation with Jackie Henderson, 51, which led to his dismissal and the cancellation of their long-running show, cannot constitute serious misconduct because such behaviour had been encouraged by his employer. The pair's 25-year broadcasting partnership imploded on February 20 when Sandilands criticised Henderson over what he described as her "fixation" with astrology.
Network's Future Plans
ARN is reportedly hoping to bring back Jackie Henderson at a significantly reduced rate with a new program, after also terminating her $100 million deal last month. The network's strategy appears to be shifting as it navigates the fallout from these high-profile departures.
Daily Mail has reached out to Kyle Sandilands for further comment on these developments, but no official statement has been released at this time. The situation continues to evolve as both legal proceedings and potential acquisition talks progress.
