Remove Black Mould From Silicone Sealant in 5 Minutes Using Baking Soda

Black mould on silicone sealants can be removed in just five minutes using a simple baking soda paste, according to UK sealant company GT Sealants. The natural method offers a safer alternative to bleach-based sprays commonly found in supermarkets.

To make the paste, mix two to three teaspoons of baking soda with one cup of water until it forms a thick consistency. Apply the paste to the affected area using a cloth, then leave it for five minutes. Wrapping the silicone in cling film can help retain moisture and improve effectiveness.

After five to ten minutes, remove the plastic wrap and scrub the sealant with a brush or old toothbrush. Rinse with cool water and dry thoroughly with a clean cloth to prevent mould from returning.

For stubborn stains, the process may need to be repeated. GT Sealants emphasised that drying the silicone is a crucial final step often overlooked.
