A former NHS surgeon, who performed horrific and illegal body modifications under the moniker 'Eunuch Maker', has been handed a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years behind bars.
Dr. Christopher Robbins, 56, used his medical expertise to carry out extreme and dangerous procedures on willing clients from a makeshift operating theatre in his suburban Netherfield home. His actions have been described by the judge as a 'chilling betrayal of his Hippocratic Oath'.
A Web of Disturbing Procedures
Nottingham Crown Court heard how Robbins, a former urologist, advertised his services on underground websites catering to individuals seeking extreme body alterations. His 'services' went far beyond any form of recognised medical practice.
Evidence presented during the trial detailed how Robbins performed procedures without any regard for sterility or proper aftercare, putting his victims at immense risk of infection and permanent injury. Police were alerted after one victim required emergency hospital treatment for severe complications.
From Healer to Harm
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Smith, who led the investigation, stated: "This is one of the most disturbing cases we have ever encountered. A man entrusted with the skill to heal instead used his knowledge to inflict life-changing harm for his own gratification and financial gain."
The investigation, dubbed Operation Manticore, involved analysing hundreds of hours of digital evidence and interviewing multiple victims who had been left physically and psychologically scarred.
A Landmark Sentence
In sentencing, Mr. Justice Harrington told Robbins: "You perverted your skills and betrayed the fundamental tenets of the medical profession. You acted with callous disregard for the wellbeing of those in your care, driven by a warped sense of purpose and financial incentive."
The life sentence is believed to be one of the most severe ever handed down for crimes of this nature in the UK, setting a legal precedent for the prosecution of illegal body modification practices.
The General Medical Council has confirmed that Robbins was struck off the medical register prior to sentencing, ensuring he can never practice medicine again.
