A Jet2 flight from Spain declared a mid-air emergency while approaching a UK airport on Saturday afternoon. The Glasgow-bound flight departed Alicante at around 1:40 PM local time on June 13, 2026, and requested a priority landing due to a medical emergency.
Incident Details
A spokesperson for the airline confirmed: 'Our crew followed procedure and requested a priority landing due to a medical emergency.' The Boeing 737-8 was scheduled to arrive at Glasgow Airport at approximately 3:40 PM before the general emergency squawk code 7700 was activated about two and a half hours into the flight.
Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 showed the plane traveling north at roughly 23,000 feet over the Irish Sea near Stranraer. It continued over Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire before landing safely at Glasgow Airport shortly after 3:40 PM.
Emergency Response
The 7700 squawk code can indicate various emergencies, including technical issues. This procedure enables air traffic controllers and ground crews to respond effectively. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been contacted for comment, and Jet2 has also been approached for further details.
