Michelle Keegan has opened up about the challenges of returning to work after becoming a mother, describing the experience as 'daunting'. The 38-year-old actress took a brief hiatus from her career to welcome her first child, daughter Palma, with husband Mark Wright in March 2025.
Now, as she prepares to grace screens once more in the six-part ITV drama series The Blame, Keegan has revealed that her colleagues provided immense support during the transition. Speaking at the ITV showcase alongside host Graham Norton, she shared: 'Coming back to work after having a baby is quite daunting. But the production were so supportive and I was so looked after and it was like working with family.'
Keegan was joined by her co-star Douglas Booth, and the pair quickly developed a strong on-screen chemistry, bonding over shared interests. The former soap star remarked: 'It was quite organic [our relationship]; we got on straight away and we were doing quizzes in the makeup chair. That's how we bonded, quizzes and food.'
Plot of The Blame
The series follows DI Crane (Keegan) and DI Radley (Booth) as they investigate the discovery of a teenage figure skater's body, Sophie Madsen, which sends shockwaves through the town of Wakestead. As the detectives delve deeper, what initially appears to be a tragic death unravels into a complex web of lies, institutional cover-ups, and moral compromise. With time running out and trust fracturing, Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics within her own team.
Palma's First Birthday Celebration
In other news, Keegan recently offered a glimpse into her daughter Palma's first birthday party, sharing a series of photographs on Instagram. The Coronation Street actress and her husband Mark enlisted the expertise of event planners Luxe Events And Parties to orchestrate a glamorous celebration for the toddler's milestone last week.
Sharing more details from the big day, Keegan asked followers: 'Can I ask where the past years gone please?' as she reflected on her daughter's rapid growth. The posts showcased Palma's multiple outfits for the occasion on hangers, as well as soft toys displayed in the couple's lavish Essex mansion. Sweet posters around the home read: 'Isn't she lovely, isn't she onederful.'
For her guests, Keegan served white chocolate cake pops decorated with pink bows, alongside an array of cocktails. She also provided a matching two-tier cake, piles of pink and white biscuits, and rows of white and pink cupcakes. The party's theme was pastels with bows, with the entire space and an outdoor tepee adorned with pink and white decorations, including a soft play set-up, a balloon-filled inflatable, and a bouncy castle.
Family Time in Spain
Last month, Keegan enjoyed some downtime with her husband Mark and daughter Palma during a sun-soaked work trip to Spain. The Fool Me Once actress shared sweet moments from their family adventure, including Mark carrying their toddler on his shoulders. Keegan also took in breathtaking landscapes during her leisure time. While balancing work commitments, she posted a snap of a living room transformed into a film set, filled with cameras and light boards. Additionally, she posed for modelling shots wearing white linen, captioning the post: 'Summers coming.'
Keegan has been married to Mark, 39, since 2015, and the couple share baby girl Palma.
