Earthquake hits Kangaroo Island

A moderate earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale has shaken Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia, sending tremors through the region.

The seismic event, which occurred at a depth of 10km, was felt by residents who reported sudden shaking and rattling windows. While no significant damage has been reported, the quake has raised awareness about the island's geological activity.

Residents React to Unexpected Tremors

Local inhabitants described feeling the ground move beneath them, with some mistaking the quake for heavy machinery or strong winds. "It was over in seconds, but definitely got our attention," one resident told reporters.

Expert Analysis of the Seismic Event

Geoscience Australia confirmed the earthquake's epicentre was located approximately 30km southwest of Kingscote, the island's largest town. Seismologists have assured the public that aftershocks, if any, are likely to be minor.

Kangaroo Island, known for its pristine wilderness and wildlife, isn't typically associated with significant seismic activity, making this event particularly noteworthy for both residents and scientists studying Australia's geological patterns.
