As model and TV personality Kelly Brook prepares for her stint in the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, a forgotten chapter of her acting career has resurfaced – and it's one critics would rather stayed buried.
The Film Critics Love to Hate
In 2012, Brook starred in the British comedy Keith Lemon: The Film, a project that has since been branded both 'unfunny' and 'horrible' by online reviewers. The movie holds the dubious distinction of an abysmal 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film, which was directed by Paul Angunawela, features Brook playing a fictionalised version of herself as the love interest of the titular TV personality, played by Leigh Francis. It was created following the success of the television panel show Celebrity Juice.
A Star-Studded But Panned Production
The plot follows Keith Lemon to London after a major business failure disappoints his pregnant girlfriend, Rosie, played by Laura Aikman. He then invents a successful phone app, making millions and moving to Hollywood to live a life of luxury. There, he begins dating Kelly Brook. The story takes a turn when he owes money to Evil Steve, leading to Rosie's kidnapping and a rescue mission.
The movie is packed with explicit themes, sexual innuendo, and adult comedy. It also boasts a host of celebrity cameos, including David Hasselhoff, Gary Barlow, Peter Andre, Emma Bunton, and Jedward. Verne Troyer appears as Lemon's guardian angel.
However, the star power did little to impress critics. One scathing Rotten Tomatoes review stated, "To be honest, it was the worst film ever... It's not funny at all. Overall, rubbish."
Another echoed this sentiment, calling the film a terrible understatement: "The 'jokes' are that bad and immature they make you feel uncomfortable, and the story looks like it came out of a child's English class."
Not Everyone Hated It
Despite the overwhelming negative criticism, the film did find a small audience among dedicated fans of the Keith Lemon character. One viewer wrote, "Never seen Celebrity Juice before, but thought this film was freaking hilarious!"
Another defender added, "A great and funny comedy full of just what you would get from letting yourself into the world of Keith Lemon and his crazy life... if you watch it and like Keith Lemon, then you will love the film."
For those curious to judge for themselves, Keith Lemon: The Film, starring Kelly Brook, is available to stream now on Amazon Prime and can also be rented on Apple TV.
