The BBC is seeking contestants for the second season of Rob Brydon's mystery road-trip game show, Destination X. If you enjoy traveling the world and solving clues, you might be the perfect candidate.
Show Overview and Prize
Earlier this month, it was announced that Destination X would be recommissioned for a second season. The show follows 13 participants traveling across Europe in a blacked-out coach, challenging them to identify their destination. The winner takes home £100,000. Throughout the journey, contestants face various challenges to unlock additional clues. Each episode ends with participants marking an X on a map, and the person whose X is farthest from the actual location is eliminated.
Return After Uncertainty
After the first series concluded, there was no official word on a recommission. Given the ambitious format reportedly cost millions to produce, fans feared there would be no follow-up. However, a television insider told The Sun that the show will return, stating: 'The show developed quite a following, and those devotees will obviously be thrilled it is coming back - despite fears it may not.' The only downside is that filming won't start until late summer, meaning almost two years will pass between the first and second series. But in a TV landscape where many shows don't make it to a second series, fans will be prepared to wait.
Contestant Requirements
The production company TwoFour is now looking for contestants. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and available to travel for four weeks between September and October 2026. They must hold a passport less than 10 years old on the day they leave the UK, with at least three months of validity beyond the planned return date, and must allow entry to all European countries without restrictions. The closing date for applications is Friday, August 14. The producers expect a large amount of interest, so applicants should aim to stand out. Full terms and conditions and the application link are available on the BBC website.
Host's Perspective
Rob Brydon previously described Destination X as combining elements from the BBC's other successful reality shows, The Traitors and Race Across the World. In a July 2025 interview, he said: 'I've never done a TV show on this scale before. I loved the idea of it, the combination of having to work out clues as to where you are and having to get on with each other. It struck me as the best bits of The Traitors with the best bits of Race Across the World.' The Gavin and Stacey star confessed he became far more invested in the programme than expected, explaining: 'I was surprised at how invested I became in it; it didn't take long at all to get really fully invested in it. You get involved with the contestants, and you feel for them when they are struggling, and you celebrate with them when they do well. It was a far more involving experience than I was expecting.'
The first season of Destination X is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.
