The Princess of Wales demonstrated the royal art of fashion diplomacy at a glittering state banquet held in Windsor Castle on Wednesday evening. Kate attended the formal dinner staged in honour of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, alongside King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and the Prince of Wales.

For the grand occasion, the Princess of Wales selected a glamorous, long-sleeved, green evening dress designed by Singaporean fashion designer Andrew Gn. The demure, high-necked gown was precisely the same shade of green as the Nigerian national flag, which features green and white stripes. This thoughtful sartorial choice echoes the late Queen Elizabeth II's well-documented practice of incorporating a host nation's national emblems or colours into her outfits during state visits and diplomatic events.

Earlier in the day, for the ceremonial welcome, Kate stepped out in a tailored, grey coat dress with a white collar and buttons. This piece was created by young British-Nigerian fashion designer Tolu Coker, adding another layer of cultural recognition. During the evening banquet, the Princess accessorised her ensemble with her favoured Lover's Knot tiara, a piece famously adored by Diana, Princess of Wales. She also wore the late Queen's earrings, the King's family order, and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.

The King and the Prince of Wales both appeared in traditional white tie and the Windsor tail coat, adorned with medals, chest orders, and neck decorations. Queen Camilla wore a cream, embroidered gown by designer Fiona Clare, complemented by a sapphire and diamond tiara and matching earrings that once belonged to the late Queen. Her jewellery included a diamond serpent necklace, the Garter sash and star, and the King's family order. Mrs Tinubu, the Nigerian First Lady, was resplendent in a sparkling black gown accompanied by a pink, white, and black Nigerian Gele turban headdress.
