BBC Radio 2 is set to bring its flagship music festival to Leicester's Victoria Park on 16 and 17 September 2024, marking the station's first major live event since before the pandemic. The event, previously held in London's Hyde Park, will see 35,000 tickets available per day.
Tickets go on sale at 08:15 BST on Wednesday, with the full line-up to be announced on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show between 8am and 9.15am on Tuesday. Leicester's mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, described the event as 'a tremendous boost to the area'.
Victoria Park has a history of hosting large concerts, including performances by Kasabian and Leicester City's 2016 title celebrations. Local businesses have expressed optimism about the economic boost, following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said she hoped the event would 'bring together music lovers from across the nation'. The festival was originally scheduled for Leeds in 2022 but was cancelled as a mark of respect after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
