Ugly Phil Breaks Silence After Jackie O's Dramatic Radio Exit

Jackie O Henderson's former husband, veteran radio presenter Phil O'Neil, has broken his silence following her sensational departure from The Kyle & Jackie O Show. The split came after an explosive on-air clash with co-host Kyle Sandilands that left Henderson in tears and ultimately led to the collapse of their long-running partnership.

Social Media Post Sparks Speculation

O'Neil, who was married to Henderson from 1993 to 1999 and helped launch her radio career, shared a telling social media post on Wednesday. He reposted a listener's message calling for his return to radio with the caption: "Yes it is true. I am the big radio story of the day. But I have nothing further to add. Thank you."

The post featured a screenshot from a fan pleading "Bring back Ugly Phil," suggesting he should take over the reins of the KIIS FM breakfast show following Henderson's departure. O'Neil gave Henderson her start in the industry by featuring her as a frequent guest on his Triple M Adelaide program Phil O'Neil's Hot 30 during their marriage.

Contract Termination and Suspension

KIIS FM's parent company ARN announced on Tuesday that Henderson's $100 million contract had been terminated after she informed executives she "cannot continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands." The decision followed harsh comments made by Sandilands during the February 20 broadcast that reduced Henderson to tears.

ARN has simultaneously suspended Sandilands for 14 days, giving him time to "remedy" what the company considers "an act of serious misconduct" that breaches their services agreement. If he fails to address the breach, Sandilands faces termination from the network.

Immediate Show Cancellation

The KIIS breakfast show has been taken off-air immediately, with interim arrangements being made for programming. ARN has offered Henderson the possibility of hosting an alternative show on their network, though no details have been confirmed about potential replacements or future programming.

Sandilands and Henderson signed a landmark 10-year deal with ARN in 2023, with eight years remaining on their contract. The agreement reportedly paid the duo $200 million, equating to approximately $47,000 per episode.

The Feud That Ended an Era

The partnership between Henderson and Sandilands began in 2000 and lasted until February 20, when their professional relationship spectacularly imploded. During the fateful broadcast, Sandilands became angry when Henderson read out Prince Andrew's birth chart during a discussion about the disgraced royal.

Sandilands lambasted his co-star, claiming her interest in astrology was affecting her work performance. When Henderson attempted to defend herself, Sandilands insisted he was merely stating "facts." An emotional Henderson later stated she felt deeply "offended" by his brutal comments.

Henderson took immediate leave following the altercation and was initially expected to return on March 2. That return was subsequently pushed back another week before Tuesday's announcement made her departure permanent.

Network Statement Details Fallout

ARN released a comprehensive statement outlining their position: "Ms Jacqueline Henderson has given notice that she 'cannot continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands.' Accordingly, ARN has terminated the services agreement with Henderson Media Pty Ltd."

The statement continued: "During the 14 day period, Mr Sandilands will not take part in the show. The KIIS breakfast show will be taken off-air effective immediately, with interim arrangements made for the show."

Daily Mail has reached out to both Henderson and Sandilands for comment regarding the dramatic developments that have ended one of Australian radio's most successful partnerships.
