Tyson Fury has sparked controversy after wearing a hat emblazoned with the slogan 'Donald Trump for prime minister' during a visit to the White House on Sunday.
White House Visit
The heavyweight boxing champion, aged 37, and his wife Paris attended a sporting event at the US president's residence to mark America's 250th anniversary of independence. They were among several famous faces present at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event.
Social Media Posts
Fury shared multiple images on Instagram from the event, including a photo alongside President Trump and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, which he called a 'power pic'. The image also featured UFC president Dana White. In the caption, Fury wrote: 'Viva Trump! Don for (Prime Minister) of the UK. Would be a much better place.'
The boxer wore a black suit with 'Gypsy King' in gold lettering and a red and white cap featuring both the Union flag and American flag, with the words 'Donald Trump for Prime Minister'. In another photo, Fury and his wife Paris smiled for a selfie while pointing at the hat, with the caption repeating the slogan and the hashtag 'make Britain great again'.
Backlash from Fans
Paris Fury also faced criticism for attending the event, which coincided with President Trump's 80th birthday. She posted a carousel of images on Instagram, writing: 'Only in America! Can't believe we are at the White House walking round, then watching the fights in Donald Trump's garden! Whirlwind few days!'
The couple's posts received an outpouring of disapproval from followers, who questioned whether their support for Trump aligns with their Christian values. Many also expressed confusion over how the couple, as members of the Irish travelling community, could support the US president.
Previous Political Involvement
This is not Fury's first foray into politics. In 2015, he told BBC News he hoped to stand as an Independent MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale. Fury is best known as a heavyweight champion but has recently appeared in the reality show At Home With The Furys, which documents his retirement from boxing and family life.
