If you're struggling to shift brown stains from your toilet, there's a simple cleaning method you can try using an 87p item. It may sound unlikely, but it's said to work wonders.
The Cleaning Hack
The cleaning hack was recently highlighted by a TikTok account known as The Wee Scotty Cleaners, and it's said to deliver remarkable results. When tackling the task, most people reach for bleach or vinegar to freshen up the loo, but an unlikely item could be the solution you've been searching for.
It's not the only cleaning tip of its kind to surface recently, either. Previously, it was revealed how to remove yellow stains quickly.
She said: "I've got a little cleaning hack for anybody that gets a toilet and it's all stained brown on the bottom, and you can't get the dirt. I'm going in with these."
She then reveals some denture cleaning tablets, and continues: "If you just pop two of these in, they fizz up, and they make your water all blue. They'll lift the stains off the bottom of your toilet without those harsh chemicals like bleach."
She explained that's all you need to do to complete the job. She also pointed out it works to lift "all the brown stains", and described it as a trick everyone should be aware of.
It was also claimed to be a "dirt cheap" way to clean toilets, with tablets available for as little as 87p, although the ones she uses come in slightly pricier. Since the tip was posted online, viewers were quick to react and engage with the clip.
One wrote: "Great, I'm going to give that a go tomorrow. Good job my husband has false teeth."
Another added: "I do that." A third replied: "Amazing. Thank you."
Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Good, and safe for removing coffee stains in cups."
How does it work?
You might not be aware that denture tablets can be used to tackle toilet stains. This is down to the fact that they contain bleaching agents, oxidisers and baking soda.
They're brilliant at breaking down mineral rings, biological grime and light stains without the harsh chemical smells. Simply drop two or three tablets into your toilet bowl and watch them fizz away.
Leave the solution to work for at least 20 to 30 minutes. For particularly stubborn stains, leaving them in overnight tends to deliver the best results.
After that, give the bowl a quick scrub with a toilet brush to lift the dissolved residue, then flush. Bear in mind, however, that they may not be powerful enough to tackle severe, long-term hard water or deep limescale build-up.
For heavier scale or rust, you'll likely still achieve the best outcome with a traditional de-scaler or a heavy-duty toilet cleaner. Nevertheless, it remains a fantastic and fuss-free way to freshen up your loo.
