Stephen Graham Condemns 'Exceptionally Disrespectful' Hollywood Stars for Tardiness

British actor Stephen Graham has launched a scathing critique against certain Hollywood stars, branding their behaviour on set as "exceptionally disrespectful" and "disgusting." The acclaimed performer, known for his role in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence, voiced his frustrations during a recent SAG-AFTRA Foundation Panel in Los Angeles.

Graham's Blunt Remarks on Punctuality and Respect

During the panel discussion, the 52-year-old actor did not mince words when addressing the issue of actors failing to arrive on time for filming. "There are a lot of actors that aren't on time," Graham stated emphatically. "That's exceptionally disrespectful, to leave a crew that have been there well before you and will leave well after you, waiting around because you are some Lord and Saviour and the goose that lays the golden egg."

He elaborated further, highlighting the disproportionate impact on film crews compared to actors. "I think that's exceptionally disrespectful - one, to leave your fellow actors but two, to leave the crew waiting. To leave the crew waiting is disgusting," Graham added, his tone reflecting genuine concern for the hardworking behind-the-scenes personnel.

The Plight of Film Crews Versus Actors

Graham drew a stark contrast between the treatment of actors and crew members on Hollywood sets. He pointed out that while many actors enjoy the luxury of being chauffeur-driven to locations, crew members typically have to arrange their own transportation and often work longer hours for significantly less pay.

"They're getting paid nowhere near as much," he continued, referring to the dedicated crew members. "They're doing what they're doing because they love what they're doing. And you can't actually do what you do without them."

The actor offered straightforward advice to his fellow performers: "So don't take the p*** and just at least have some respect and be on time. Then if you choose to say 'Good morning', that's your prerogative, but at least be on time."

Timing of Remarks Coincides with Awards Season

Graham's candid comments were delivered as part of a career retrospective with SAG-AFTRA that took place in Los Angeles in January, just weeks before the actors' union would hold their annual awards ceremony. Both Graham and his Adolescence co-star Owen Cooper received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series at the 2026 SAG Awards.

In the critically acclaimed Netflix series, Graham and Cooper portrayed a father and son whose relationship becomes fractured after it is revealed that toxic masculinity led the teenage son to kill his female classmate. The powerful performances earned both actors significant recognition throughout the awards season.

Owen Cooper's Award Success and Graham's Perspective

Cooper ultimately won the SAG-AFTRA award, adding to an impressive collection of accolades for his role in Adolescence. The young actor also secured Supporting Actor awards at the Critics' Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, the Emmys, and the National Television Awards, making his performance one of the most decorated in television history.

Graham himself has received numerous awards for the series, including Best Actor honors at the Critics' Choice Awards, Golden Globes, and Emmys, along with recognition for his role as one of the series' co-creators. However, the veteran actor has expressed that professional accolades matter less to him than the real-world impact of his work.

Following his Emmy wins, Graham told The Guardian: "Having a fella come up in Tesco and say: 'I just want to thank you. I had a really good chat with my son the other night after we watched your programme.' No disrespect but you can keep your awards and all that shiny b*******s. That's the real accolade."

This perspective underscores Graham's grounded approach to his craft and his appreciation for meaningful connections with audiences over industry recognition. His recent comments about Hollywood behaviour further demonstrate his commitment to respect and professionalism in an industry often criticized for its excesses and inequalities.
