Reality television personality Skye Wheatley has offered a remarkably frank insight into her current dynamic with former partner Lachlan Waugh, describing their relationship status as "complicated" as they focus on a major shared project: finishing the renovation of their family home.
A 'Complicated' Relationship Status
During a recent episode of her Nova Podcast Skye & Callum, the 31-year-old social media influencer addressed persistent fan speculation. Wheatley, who first found fame on Big Brother Australia in 2014 and later won I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in 2024, confirmed that while a breakup had occurred, their primary focus remains on collaboration. "I think we're doing a better job at working together as a team," she told co-host Callum Hole.
She emphasised that their shared goal of completing the house is the central priority, leaving little room for deeper relationship discussions. "Maybe when the house is finished, we can sit down and unpack everything… So, the relationship status is, I would say… complicated," Wheatley revealed.
The Strain of Renovations and Co-Parenting
The couple, who share two sons—six-year-old Forest and four-year-old Bear—initially announced their separation in October after seven years together. Wheatley explained that the pressures of running their business, Shopfit Co, raising young children, and managing the extensive renovation had severely strained their partnership, making it "very hard to understand each other sometimes."
This separation, however, is not their first. The Big Brother alum admitted they have taken "little breaks" in the past to reset, but noted this is the longest co-parenting split they have experienced. She described the difficulty of the immediate aftermath, where they lived under the same roof but communicated only about their children. "We were pretty much cold turkey," she said.
A Race Against Time and Budget
The unfinished house renovation now represents a huge practical and symbolic project for the ex-couple. Wheatley disclosed that finances for the DIY project have run dry, stating they have "no more money left." Despite the challenges, she is determined to move in before Christmas.
"I'm just keen to get in before Christmas. So if that means me rendering or painting or doing some heavy lifting, whatever it takes. We need to get into that house," she asserted, highlighting their joint commitment to seeing the project through.
Rumours of trouble in the relationship began circulating among followers in September, after fans noticed Wheatley had not posted about Lachlan on social media for over two months. Her latest podcast comments provide the most detailed update since confirming the split, painting a picture of a pragmatic, if emotionally complex, partnership focused on family and future stability.
